Happy New Year!
I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable vacation. For KONY the new year always begins with the annual Tri-Chapter workshop. Please join us and our Orff and Dalcroze colleagues for this exciting event. This year the Orff Chapter is sponsoring Peter & Mary Alice Amidon, who will be presenting “Rich Traditions and New Creations: Dance, Song, Storytelling and Literature in the Music Classroom”.

Following the Tri-Chapter workshop, we look forward to “Kodály in the Capital: A Musical Legacy” the 2009 OAKE National Conference (March 12–14). Every four years the conference comes to our Eastern Division. Please take advantage of our close proximity to Washington D.C. and rejuvenate with fellow music educators from around the country. Highlights of this year’s conference include the Amidons and Libana. KONY members Susan Glass, Joan Isaacs Litman and Georgia Newlin will each present sessions. The Thursday, Friday and Saturday schedules, session descriptions and registration forms are available online at www.oake.org.

In April Sarah St. Onge will share a workshop regarding lesson plan transitions. Sarah has taught methodology at the NYU Kodály Summer Institute for many years, and we are pleased to host her.

Voices United! A Fiesta of Song will be held on Cinco de Mayo (May 5th) and will feature a Mexican folk song medley arranged by festival conductor Joan Isaacs Litman as well as a break-out session with a mariachi band.

Continue to look for my emails with event updates, and please don’t hesitate to write to me with any questions, comments or ideas you may have at konylist@gmail.com. I
hope to see many of you on January 31st!
Karen Paulson
